President’s Message

As we start to round out the year and enter the fall season we look towards QUAFF
Oktoberfest for our yearly celebration of all things beer, sharing beer, brewing beer for the
event, sharing homebrew as well as commercial beers from abroad and our local selections.
There will also be a raffle that will yield beer glasses, t-shirts, growler fills, beer ingredients, like I said, all things beer. And in the midst of this annual celebration, not to be forgotten, are our club members that made the many pounds of sausage for grilling at this annual revelry for all things fermented. Thanks to Mary Anne and Horace Bixby for hosting the sausage fest.

Many thanks to Societe Brewing Company and Doug Constantiner for coming to our
monthly general meeting and pouring a couple of the brewery’s inaugural offerings, The Harlot and The Apprentice. Doug also shared the company’s philosophy and viewpoints on the IPA’s and Belgian ales that they are currently brewing as well as a glimpse into the sour ales and barrel aged beers they will be releasing in the upcoming months/years. ( I still think they should put the Butcher in a bourbon barrel and let it “oxidize”.)

Dustin Oswald from The Hoppery gave a brief hop presentation sharing his insights and
personal accounts of hop growing, harvesting, and drying for all the current green thumbs out there growing their own hops in the club.

Next meeting we welcome Chuck West presenting brewing techniques for holiday and
spiced ales in hopes of inspiring some club members to brew something special for the QUAFF holiday party that will be held once again in Morena Village and is sure to have many special beer and food offerings for our eating and drinking enjoyment.

And on a more serious note, let’s not forget what it means to be a QUAFFer and the
QUAFF pride that should be felt as part of this club. Be a diplomat for QUAFF and represent the club proudly. We want people to understand that we are more than just a drinking club and that we represent hobbyists that appreciate the art of brewing. Most of us are a part of this club to understand and share the word/world of beer making as well as discuss and debate different techniques on the path to become better brewers, whether it stay as a hobby or become a profession.

Thanks again for everyone that makes QUAFF what it is and I’ll see you at the next
general meeting on September 25th at Randy Jones. Cheers!!
